Biography

Kiefer Sutherland was born Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland on December 21, 1966 and is the son of actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas in London. Inspired by his father's success Kiefer decided to persue acting early on. He moved to New York in 1983 to act. There was limited work starring in several TV commercials so he decided to move to L.A.

Sutherland's break out role came playing a local bully in Stand by Me. Following Stand By Me was a role as the head of a gang of vampires in The Lost Boys, an 80's cult classic. He followed up with strong performances in Young Guns and Flatliners. He was married to actress Camelia Kath for several years before divorcing in 1990. The two had a daughter Sarah Jude together. Kiefer dated an was engaged to Julia Roberts whom he met while working on Flatliners. The couple was engaged to be marry but Julia left the alter at the last minute and the ceremony did not go through. The relationship ended after that.

After his broken engagement his career seemed on the down turn as he did several commercially unsuccessfuly movies that were considered poor. His career turned around with his work in the TV drama 24, in which he portrays counter terrorist agent Jack Bauer. His role in 24 helped rejuvenate his career and he has recently done work in Phone Booth and the Sentinel.
