Biography

Tom Cruise was born on July 3, 1962) to Thomas Mapother III and Mary Lee Pfeiffer in Syracuse, New York. Cruise moved around often from place to place as a child, attending eight elementary schools and three differend high schools in places as diverse as Ottawa, Canada, Louisville, Kentucky, Glen Ridge, New Jersey and Wayne, New Jersey. He was raised a Catholic and at one point in time considered becoming a priest. Tom was athletic in high school and was involved with wrestling. It was actually after an injury to his knee, which sidelined him, that he became interested in acting. He got hooked to acting after playing a lead role in a high school play and from there decide to persue acting as a career. Cruise is part German and Welsh and Irish.

Tom's first big came in Taps, in which he played a fanatical cadet in military school and starred with Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn. After Taps came work in The Outsiders and soon after Risky Business, which was the movie which propelled him to stardom. Tom's next big role came as an F-14 fighter pilot Maverick in Top Gun, a huge commercial success. He also scored big success in The Color of Money, opposite Paul Newman and Rain Man opposite Dustin Hoffman. Cruises hot streak continued with his work in Born on the Fourth of July and A Few Good Men. He had work in Days of Thunder, which did not do well at the box office, where he met his wife, Nicole Kidman. It is very rare for Tom Cruise to not make a money that grosses several hundred million worldwide. He is also involved in the wildly success Mission Impossible franchise, that he also produces, and had parts in popular classics such as Jerry Maguire. Other notable work include, Eyes Wide Shut, Minority Report, The Last Samari and War of the Worlds.

Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers (married on May 9, 1987, divorced February 4, 1990)[1]. Scientology took interest in the divorce because Rogers was disaffected from Scientology (although she introduced Cruise to the religion in the first place); in managing the divorce for Cruise, they were able to convince her to accept a relatively paltry $10 million for the settlement. Tom Cruise had been linked romantically to several women over the years. He was married to actress Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990 before he was married to Nicole Kidaman. His marrage to Kidman started in 1990 lasted more 10 years before ending divorced in 2001. We dated Penelope Cruz, who he met on the set of Vanilla Sky, briefly. Cruise has most recently been linked with actress Katie Holmes with whom he had a child. He also has two adopted children from his marriage with Nicole.
