Biography

Vin Diesel was born Mark Sinclair Vincent on July 18, 1967 in New York City. He was raised in Greenwich Village by his mother Delora who is a psychologist and stepfather Irving Vincent, a teacher. Vin Diesel's name actually came from a job he had as a bouncer. As he once explained, bouncers usually don't give out their real names and he went by Vin Diesel as a bouncer. That name eventually stuck. He got involved in acting at an early age. At the age of seven he was involved in "Theatre for the New City" in Greenwich Village doing stage work. Diesel is multiethic and is part African-American, Italian and Scottish. Vin has a fraternal twin brother, Paul Vincent who is younger by fourteen minutes. Paul Vincent is also involved in the movie industry and works as a film editor.

Diesel's first break came with the success of a short film that he had produced, directed, and starred in called Multi-Facial. His work in Multi-Facial got the attention of Steven Spielberg and landed him work in Saving Private Ryan, his first big break. He follow up with a role as Riddick, a social pathtic criminal trapped on an alien planet in the sci-fi classic Pitch Black. From there he went on to do boiler room and The Fast and the Furious. The Fast and the Furious was a huge hit and was the movie which put Vin Diesel on the map. He followed up with other commercial successes such as XXX and the Pacifier. He has been linked romantically to many actresses and models. Vin mentioned in an interview that he intends to focus on acting until his 40s after which he will settle down have a family and persue other interests.
